Lynxes
Lynx (Felis [Lynx] lynx): The lynx is distributed across northern Asia and most of Europe, save for the very westernmost areas. Also, related to the lynxes of the old world is the Canadian lynx, which can be found in most of Canada and parts of the United States. The lynx has lost a considerable amount of its previous territory due to bounties and the encroachment of human populations.
The lynx is a large, powerfully built cat with long sturdy legs, a very short tail, and triangular ears topped by tufts of black hairs about 4cm (1.6 in) in length. Both sexes have well-developed side-whiskers, which can take on almost manelike proportions in the winter months. The paws are large and furred so densely in winter that they act remarkably well as snowshoes for the animal. Sizes vary somewhat between the subspecies, but are of average 60 to 75 cm in shoulder height (avg 27 in), 80 to 130 (avg 41 in) in head and body length and wighing about 18 to 38 kg (avg 63 lbs)
